Peter Sefton - Principal Tutor
Peter is an award winning Master Craftsman and Furniture Maker with 34 years’ experience and is a qualified Lecturer and Assessor. He is hands-on at his bench, and spends all day, every day, in the workshop with his students. He is a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Furniture Makers and has devoted more than 19 years of his professional career to teaching and mentoring.
Sean Feeney - Designer Maker in Residence
Peter Sefton’s teaching is complemented by Sean Feeney, who joins us each week as the School’s Designer Maker in Residence. Sean is a highly respected designer with his own bespoke design and furniture making business for the last 35 years. He holds seven Guild Marks and is also a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Furniture Makers. He has just retired from the judging panel of the Bespoke Guild Mark.
Sarah Sefton - Student Manager
Sarah oversees the administration for the School and is the first point of contact for booking courses, as well as pastoral care for all the students attending the School. Her background in accountancy and project management makes her ideally placed to teach Business Studies in the Long Course Summer Term, in preparation for our students' self employment or career in a workshop.
Paul Barfoot - Workshop Assistant
Paul is a third-generation Furniture Restorer and time-served French Polisher with 40 years' experience and he also works at the Furniture School each day as an assistant ensuring the workshops are kept spic and span and all our supplies are kept topped up. He offers practical help and advice to students with finishing their pieces and is a wealth of knowledge on finishing.
Sam Carter - Workshop Assistant
Graduate Sam Carter, is Peter's assistant who came to the School straight from Sixth Form with no experience and went on to win the 2015 Alan Peter’s Award for Young Designer/Maker at the Celebration of Craftsmanship and Design Exhibition, in Cheltenham. He has his own furniture making business, Sam Carter Furniture, and works on commissions for clients in our workshops.
Bob Jones - French Polishing Tutor
Bob is a time-served French Polisher who began his career at Rackstraws in Worcester some 45 years ago. Bob not only tutors the long course students, he also teaches several two day French and Traditional Polishing short courses throughout the year. In his spare time, Bob works on private commissions for customers.
Chris Yates - Routing Tutor
Chris is an engineer by training and his passion and experience in routing and jig-making is passed onto our long course students, plus he teaches several short Routing courses at the School, throughout the year. He has also written an expert series on routing for Furniture and Cabinetmaking Magazine.
Quentin Smith - Marquetry Tutor
Quentin Smith is the former President of the UK Marquetry Society and first picked up a scalpel some 30 years ago. He develops our long course students’ skills in marquetry, parquetry and veneering.
He has his own business QJS Marquetry, and produces beautiful bespoke marquetry.
Chris Eagles - Woodturning Tutor
Chris is a Professional Woodturner who lives and works in Evesham and has been woodturning for the past 50 years.
He teaches a number of part time courses and is also the Chairman of the Gloucestershire Guild of Woodturners and passes on his vast knowledge to our long course students.
